A sad good-bye

This is the most difficult entry that I have to write. In the early morning hours of November 13, my mom passed away. She fought so hard to stay with us even when her body was failing. She was so brave and courageous. She never felt sorry for herself or let the cancer take away the things that made her happy. Work, friends, family, and everyday living. Each time she felt sick she still went on. She was working almost to the very end much to the amazement of everyone around her.

Her journey began in April of 2008 with stage 4 colon cancer. From the beginning there was no hope of a cure but she still fought with all that she had. For herself, Steven and I, her family and her friends. She faced so many complications that many people without her strength and courage would have said enough is enough. But not her. She continued to fight as hard as she could.

This blog began as way to share information with those that loved her and as a way for me to cope with her condition; after rereading the posts I realize that it was also an outlet to share who she was and how I was feeling about her battle.

I will miss her so very much as will all of the people who loved her. I would like to take a moment to thank you for taking the time to visit the site, leave comments, and keeping mom in your prayers. She at peace now and she is with Bob.

Still Trying

Mom is still being a trooper! She tries to make it to work everyday! The pain is pretty bad and the doctor is trying to make it better. New meds and new ways of doing things. Treatment is still on hold. The symptoms that she is having are due to the cancer. I don’t know how she manages such a positive outlook! But I am so glad that she has it! Hopefully things will improve soon!

Resting…..

Mom breathing has been difficult. She is at home on new meds and is resting. She has so much support it is amazing. My uncle and aunt made her really happy yesterday by getting rid of her weeds. She loves what they did and that they spend time with her. Makes me feel better knowing how many people stop in since I am so far away. Thank you! She is in a bit of pain but the meds should help with that as well. Hopefully she will get lots of rest today and start to feel better!

Mom is home…

Mom was released late last night from the hospital. She is resting comfortably at home with my aunt Debbie. She is on her way to being back to normal. Once she is better a course of treatment will be determined with the Oncologist! But for now, she is healing!

The Doctor

The doctor was in to visit Mom. They are treating her for an admonial infection and/or a lung infection. She will be in the hosiptal for a day or two more. She is trying to rest and get strong again. Treatment for the cancer is currently on hold.

A bit of difficulty…

It has been a long weekend! Mom was having major side effects this past week and on Friday went to the ER for fluids. They released her to come home. I was able to be with her. On Saturday, mom was not doing well again and the Oncologist had me bring her back to RWJ. She has been admitted to ensure that she is getting the fluids that she needs. She is in the best place that she could be right now. As things progress I will continue to update the blog!

Needing Rest – An Update

Mom has not been at work the last few days. This round of Chemo really ran her down. She is OK. She is resting and trying to sleep as much as possible. The next rounds of Chemo have been postponed. I will return to updating the blog each night. Please check back for updates.

Chemo Again

Mom will start Chemo again this coming Tuesday. They have modified the treatment to only included the one drug. She will no longer have her bed partner (the pump) which will make Giggy very happy. Right now she is still just tired but doing well..

Chemo on Hold

Mom has been visiting the cancer center each day to get her tank filled. Her words not mine. She has need fluids to help offset the side effects of the chemo. Since the chemo was so harsh she will take another week off to recover and get stronger. She will begin a new medication the following week. Once the doctor has pick something.

Not so great

Today, is one week from the time that the new chemo has started and mom is feeling the effects. She is tired and weak. She has been resting for more than three days in order to gain her strength. She is just so strong. I can’t imagine having to go through what she is. Chemo is a horrible way to stop a disease. Hopefully the side effects can be reduced.
